School tests for scoliosis and other deformities Spine

School screening for scoliosis can be an important early detection and treatment tool before more drastic measures become necessary. Early diagnosis can make the difference between an exercise program or the need to use a guardian or even more serious conditions in a surgical procedure.

School audits 1 they started it 1974 in the United States by Dr. John H. Moe, founder of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)

From the 1990 and then school checks are compulsory in 21 States while in the rest they are carried out on the basis of voluntary actions. The aim of the school checks is to reduce the number of teenagers whose scoliosis would progress to the extent that surgery would be necessary.

The results of the school tests are not a diagnosis but a first observation based on which the teenager will be referred for further investigation.

These checks should be performed by qualified personnel as someone untrained could tell a difference when there is already an advanced spinal deformity.. At the same time, testing by non-specialized personnel could refer for testing a child who does not actually have a problem or not notice a case that needs investigation.

Early treatment of scoliosis, as long as the deformation is small, with specialized physical therapy exercises (PSSE), it always has a lower financial cost and requires less time from the child compared to dealing with a more serious deformity.

The partners of Schroth Greece.gr, in the context of awareness about scoliosis and social contribution, participate in actions of school checks for spinal deformities.

The test is carried out with a clinical assessment but also with special equipment without radiation (Formetric 4D)
