Basic ISST Schroth Course Part I & II

Schroth Greece team gives the opportunity to Physiotherapists graduates be trained in original method Schroth, as applied in the center Asklepios - Katharina Schroth. The seminar is organized in collaboration with the Institute Spine-Concept-Sobernheim and under the supervision of Axel Hennes PT International ISST Schroth Instructor.Echoume fortunate to work with international repute and experience Instructor Mr. Nikola Jevtic who trains therapists in 10 countries and every week has a new education.

The ISST training is the only one that leads to certification method called Certified Schroth Therapist.

Presentation of Schroth method

The Schroth-Method® is a physiotherapy method established by the Katharina Schroth 1921 and developed by her daughter Christa Lehnert-Schroth (PT) and a team of qualified therapists working together and studying the scoliosis for decades.

Training Program ISST Schroth

The full program includes 2 parts duration 5 days each with a total 77 h (CEU).

In ISST training program will be approach in different theoretical aspects of scoliosis combined with practical components of the therapeutic approach.

Education leads from the basic understanding of scoliosis to a more sophisticated and comprehensive clinical reasoning on the conservative management of scoliosis.

Main points

- Presentation of the approach of conservative treatment of scoliosis in field

- The Schroth method and historical progressive evolution

- The original version of the Schroth method and upgrading

- Principles of active and passive correction of the spine and posture

- Educational aspects of the Schroth method - Information, incentives, self-efficacy

- Industrial background strofikiss deformity in scoliosis

- ADL (Activities of Daily Living) - Changes in attitude

- exercise program at home

- Guardians

Objectives and summary of the complete system training

The Schroth training allow physiotherapists to provide adequate maintenance therapy to patients with spinal deformities mainly of idiopathic scoliosis and kyphosis.

The goal is to avoid surgery, to slow or stop the progression and develop effective coping strategies for patients to improve their social participation and activities in their daily life. This also has a positive effect on the overall HQL (health-related quality of life) for children, adults and elderly patients suffering from scoliosis and kyphosis.

The training allows therapists to understand the industrial conditions of the asymmetrical staging and asymmetric loading of the spine resulting in functional and structural adaptations and further risk of progression of the deformation

The specific physical therapy approach is also appropriate for patients bearing brace for patients who have an indication for surgery or after surgery

Therapists learn to define their role as team members in an interdisciplinary network of doctors, surgeons, orthotikous, parents, patients, psychologists.

  1. Basic information

Rationale, biomechanics, Scoliosis concept vicious cycle, development, incorrect posture, function and structure, guardians, surgery

  1. medical evaluation

Visual - manual assessment, treatment protocol, radiographic evaluation, skoliometro, functional evaluation.

  1. Classification

Schroth, King, Line, link

  1. special mobilization

Passive: specific manual techniques Schroth

  1. respiratory therapy

Corrective breath: it is used as an inner strength in order to prevent the rotational deformation caused by scoliosis and to mobilize restrictive dysfunctions chest.

  1. Three dimensional (3D) stabilization

Exercises for the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis, by placing in specific locations in the self-correcting

  1. activities of daily living

Learning different attitude items, easy approaches for comfortable posture, helping to prevent the development of deformation and reducing asymmetric loading.

  1. sagittal correction

Correction in the sagittal plane, easy application and important to the stability of the spinal column, especially in the lumbar region

  1. The Schroth network

The concept of interdisciplinarity, including the guardian.

Necessary for certification:

a) At the end of the first part written examination takes place.

Between Part I and Part II, Participants must prepare 2 case reports (case studies) to 2 different patients.

Each reference should include screening protocol, positioning diagram, photographs of patients in an upright position (anterior, rear and side surface, Adams assay), with basic fixes in lying and sitting position and the treatment plan: 3 exercises, 1 breathing exercise, 2 mobilization techniques, 2 exercises at home.

These reports will be provided to the certification process in Part II .

Some of the reports will be presented by the participants and discussed during the second part.

b) At the end of the second part * program presents treatment case study

For your authentication method to success is necessary and 2 examination. Your certification does not give you the right teaching method to others and non-compliance will be removed. To maintain your certification will be the next 3 years to watch one of your knowledge updating seminar.

Study (Intermediates to I and II part)

Participants should read the guidelines 2016 της SOSORT (Society on Scoliosis
Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment) for scoliosis. Sources can be found in Pubmed and scoliosis magazine is an open access journal: www.scoliosisjournal.com
